IMPORTANT FIRST TIME LOG IN PROCEDURES! Please click here.

Smoke Tree Racquet Club is a 128-unit condominium community located in the heart of Palm Springs, California, at the base of the canyon area. Our residents enjoy some of the most unforgettable views of Mount San Jacinto and the Santa Rosa Mountain Range. The focal point of the Smoke Tree Racquet Club property is one of the largest commercial pools and deck areas in Palm Springs, surrounded by a grassy green-belt and majestic palms.

Smoke Tree Racquet Club residents can wander on winding sidewalks, relax beneath one of the poolside umbrella stations, or take a dip in the pool for a low-key afternoon. Four full size tennis courts, a club house, onsite laundry facilities, manicured landscaping, walking proximity to groceries, restaurants, and a post office make Smoke Tree Racquet Club a most desirable place to live and play in the desert cities of the Coachella Valley!

Presidents Message January 2012

Dear Owners,

Happy Holidays and I wish you the very best in this New Year.

To bring you up to date on the painting, as of December 30th, four buildings and a number of the carports have been completed. I am pleased with the positive comments regarding the colors and the paint scheme. I am also pleased with the great comments about the painters on-site and I will pass them on to the contractor. With four buildings, carports and the perimeter wall along East Palm Canyon Drive and Sunset Way still to be started we are probably looking at completion in the first week of February.

If you are out here or coming here there are a number of activities planned. There is a schedule posted in the clubhouse and on this website. With the popularity of Pickle Ball last winter, the board decided to invest in a slightly more permanent arrangement for those Pickle Ball players. One tennis court will be stripped to accommodate a multi court arrangement and we have purchased nets to go with the court stripping.

A large screen TV has been mounted in the club house and should be a great  to watch the College Bowl games and the NFL playoffs there.

Although our annual meeting is five months away I would ask all of you to consider supporting the Home Owners Association by becoming a board member. At the next meeting we will need to elect one or two new members. The board does conduct nine or ten monthly meetings, a very few working sessions for special discussions such as the budget, and we do a limited amount to e-mail discussion/coordination regarding emergent situations and events between meetings. In the past we have accommodated non-resident board members.

And lastly, there has been a sudden proliferation of exterior wall mounted dish antennas. Frankly this mounting arrangement is not attractive and detracts from our property value. The HOA operating rules going back to November of 2006 state to place an external antenna you need permission from the Architectural Committee. That committee will approve a roof mounted antenna, placed on a “sled” type roof mount. The mounting and wiring, cannot penetrate the roof or exterior common area walls.  That penetration destroys the integrity of the buildings by crumbling stucco and creating water access. A reliable dish installer knows how to properly install these antennas in a condo complex. We have asked that owners with exterior wall mounted antennas to remove them prior to painting so that any surface penetration can be sealed.  Then those owners can request approval from the committee to re-mount the antenna properly. In this website and in our governing documents there is additional information on the dish antennas.

Sincerely,

Wayne

Pickle Ball Lessons
10:00 AM Wednesday January 4, 2012 - 11:00 AM Wednesday March 28, 2012
Host: Denis #313

Where: Smoke Tree Tennis/Pickle Ball Courts

Information:

- Pickleball is a fun court sport played on a badminton-sized court with the net lowered to 34 inches at the center.  It is played with a perforated plastic ball similar to a whiffle ball and wood or composite paddles about twice the size of ping-pong paddles. It is easy for beginners to learn – but can develop into a fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players.  In addition to being fun, the game has developed a reputation for its friendly and social nature.

- Pickleball can be played as singles or doubles.  New players can learn the game quickly in a single session.  No special apparel is needed – just something comfortable and appropriate for a court sport.  Equipment is inexpensive and easily portable.  The game can be played by all ages.

- If you want to know more about this addictive game go to www.usapa.org and then choose “What is Pickleball?”

- Lessons are given in Smoketree’s # 3 court every Wednesday @ 10 o’clock.

- Generally you will find people out playing the game on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 10 - 11 o’clock or later.  The start time may change when it is hotter in March.
